About Us

We recently changed our name to Bob Campbell Designs.  Our original name was Campbell Automation & Control which was formed in 1992. We are a small family business dedicated to the CNC Router market.

I graduated from Alfred State College at Alfred New York in 1958.  After that, I spent 8 years in the US Air force teaching electronics and serving at various post throughout the world.

In 1967, I joined IBM as a Systems Engineer.  I retired from IBM in late 1991. While with IBM, I had the opportunity of working with both the IBM System 7 and Series 1 computers on various control applications.

In 1999, I built my first moving table cnc router using 80/20 aluminum extrusions for the frame.  The router has been in operation for about three years and has worked exceedingly well.  During the Christmas holiday of 2000, I made almost 1,000 table top reindeer out of Sentra (PVC plastic) with the router.  It has proven to be very rigid and reliable.

My current designs use 20 mm Hiwin rails and bearings on all three axis. You can also use THK or IKO rails and bearings. Recently, I found several sets of  new THK 400 mm rails and bearings on ebay for a great price. The 400 mm rails were the correct size for my Z axis.
